To see the outline of the nucleus of an animal or plant cell as distinct from the rest of the cell, a microscope with moderate resolution quality will be able to achieve this at 400x magnification. However to see the details of cell structure requires a much stronger level of magnification – 1000x – and the ability to view the specimen using the oil immersion technique.
