Yes you can - that's what I have done as well. The only issue you may have is that the Hub needs to be plugged in so the shelf needs to be near an outlet.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I don't recommend it. I have mine mounted against the wall facing the garage door opener. When you trigger the door to close, the center of the hub will flash a bright warning light and beep for about 5 seconds then it will close the door. This is for safety so nobody and nothing gets hit by your door unsuspectingly.

Please try again later.The Smart Garage Hub is intended to be mounted but can be put anywhere in the garage as long as it's in the line of sight of the opener and the door sensor, and within 4-6 feet from the motor head.
