No separate internet gateway is necessary per se. This kit is a two piece unit. The garage door mounted positional sensor and the included ceiling (or wall) mounted hub. The hub is paired to the positional sensor(s if you have multiple doors) to your Wi-Fi and is accessible using the MyQ app on your mobile device and Alexa devices.
