Yes this system is MEANT for overhead garage door openers... if you have to manually open a garage door using your hands/arms this system wouldn't work for that. I don't know about linking it into your Vivint security system - I would ask Vivint about that. This system does link into the Ring system so who knows... a lot of these systems do link together.
