No, this works as a garage door opener itself and is comparable in compatibility to the ones in your new cars. The only difference is you can acccess it via your wifi to control it. If you want built in support in the older cars you might be able to update the part with a newer version. For example, if the garage door opener is in your mirror they sometimes have upgrades.
