• You can choose just one color if you want. You can also set it to auto and it will run through all the colors and modes. It's awesome I just bought a 2nd one

• Wish I could answer this, but it seems that people are getting the wrong tree not the one shown here, but one that is spiral delivered to them and it is a cheaper model and no lights up and down like this one. If you happen to get the spiral like I received (see my review) it does all of what you are saying. I found it worth keeping because it took so long to receive and I wanted it for this Christmas.
