large capacity water tank is plastic. Milk pitcher is stainless steel Basket for grinds is stainless steel. I have not smelled a burning plastic smell, like my last two machines. I picked this out because the inside (part I can't see, ) is metal, not plastic. But I trust that; I can't prove it.
