The location of the CB antenna on the vehicle will also have an impact on the antenna radiation pattern. The optimal location for the antenna is typically on top of a metallic roof and centered. Other mounting locations will still yield acceptable results but will most likely have a negative impact on the antenna radiation performance. Operating location will also have a significant impact on range. Typically, the higher the antenna above the average terrain the better the range capabilities. Radio propagation is also influenced by the Sun and the Earth's electrical system and depending on conditions could either greatly enhance radio propagation or degrade it.
