The internal speaker should produce sound output if the squelch is open and the volume control is adjusted to the 12 o-clock position and nothing connected to the external speaker jack. If there's no sound from the internal speaker - consider connecting an external speaker to the radio to check if the audio amplifier is working. If the external speaker produces RX sound then the external speaker jack might be the problem or the internal speaker is damaged.
