Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I would say in most vehicles yes. Unless you're cigarette outlet gets power while the vehicle is off with no key in the ignition then the car needs to be turned on. The reason for that is to prevent draining your vehicles battery.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.That depends on your car. Some need the key on to power the socket and some don't. I wouldn't run it too long though, or it could kill your battery. Also, you don't get the full potential from it through the lighter. You need to hook it directly to the battery to get the full power rating.
