Surveillance (Parking) mode will only work when the camera is hardwired to the vehicle's fuse box. This enables the camera to operate in a lower power mode until a recordable event occurs, at which point the camera fully turns on and starts recording. The kit to do this does not come with the camera and is not sold by Best Buy. My local Geek Squad techs said I could get it from the manufacturer's website and they could install it (I opted to just use the included cigarette lighter power cable, with an added hidden connection in my vehicle--now that this does not power the camera when the vehicle is off, so the Parking mode feature does not work).
