Hi TandyTRS80, You may be inducing further heat with your overclocking settings and you typically raised the voltage in your CPU. While this cooler is very efficient, you may be exceeding its cooling capabilities with your specific CPU and settings. We do offer other coolers with higher cooling capabilities that may be more suited for your situation, such as our Elite Capellix or Elite LCD series. If you'd like to learn more about our other offerings, please feel free to reach out to our support and we'd be happy to assist you with further assistance. support.corsair.com -Brian
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Overclocking any chip will make the temperatures run hotter. Especially a I-9 and A, AMD 5800X. These two chips can get extremely hot at stock settings. This cooler is much to small to handle those type of power levels from those chips. A 360mm cooler will work best! At the very least you would a 280mm cooler. A I-7 would be a better chip for that cooler. I personally downgraded from a 5800X to a 5600X, (This cooler works great with the 5600X!). I recently purchased a 360mm cooler for the 5800X and the chips still gets hot at times.
