You get motherboard hardware for both Intel and AMD in the box. The faster the cpu the hotter. Most people will be satisfied with this unit but if you plan to overclock and your case can handle it you might want to check out one of the corsair products that have larger radiators than the 240 on this product. I think there are 280 and 360 radiators available but your case has to have space to mount it or you'll be cutting holes in it and mounting it externally.

Compatible as it will fit are work with the CPU yes it does. The monitoring software however will not work. Corsair link will not show you the CPU temps. This is an issue that corsair is aware of and is working on a patch. Hope that answers your question.
