It should work with any laptop that uses a 2.5 inch drive. It will definitely increase the speed of Windows updates, and any disk intensive tasks. As far as your system being slow, that could be something else altogether. You need to have someone check it out for malware, and background tasks, because these conditions would still be issues after a hard drive upgrade.
