The tray isn't coming out on its own. You really have to mash it to the bottom of the basket. Thankfully there is a nice center handle to get it back out.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The tray actually have disk like feet on them that hug onto the side of the basket, to prevent tray to come out, unless you shake it violently, then it will.

Please try again later.It does have rubber feet, but their purposes seems to be to just suspend the tray above the bottom, to allow cooking waste (oil, crumbs, etc.) to collect and decrease the fat on the food cooked. If you still want this fryer, my suggestion is to use a pair of tongs, spatula, etc. to hold the tray in place when turning the basket on its side, but do not make a 180 degree turn.
