I have own a set of these for over two years and never had to sharpen them. The plastic covers help a lot with keeping the blades sharp. For the cost, if they go dull just purchase another set. I just purchased another set for my RV when they were on sales last month.

Nope - it completely voids the warranty. Best buy has well trained master bladesmiths at each and every store to keep these beauties razor sharp and ready to perform. Not getting the maintenance agreement would be a BIG mistake.
