I had that happen to me only once. I noticed the plug was not securely in the electrical socket so plugged it in tight and my problem was solved. Try it, it might work for you too.

But with the first lever you can either toast 1 or 2 slices. using the second lever you have the option of toasting an additional 1 or 2 slices. you can toast 1, 2, 3, or 4 slices at the same time. And each lever has its own control for how dark or light you want them done.
