Of course it depends on the load. With the fully charged 12 volt 9AH battery it would only power 100 watts (say a light bulb) for about an hour. So perhaps you could power a desktop computer and monitor for about half an hour.

If you read the specs on most of the battery backups they will give you an estimated run time. If you are planning on backing up an item that pulls a lot of power, I would check out a model with a larger capacity.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Depends on the power draw. A 1000VA system provides approx. 600W of "real" AC power. Therefore, add up the "power (wattage) ratings" of everything you have plugged into the battery-backed outlets, then divide 600 by that total. That'll give you a Rough Estimate of run time. HOWEVER, I suggest HALVING the equation result because the UPS will effectively shut down when internal battery voltage goes below 9 or 10 VDC.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you want hours of backup look elsewhere (whole house generator), these are specifically meant to provide enough power to save something important and properly turn off electronics, sudden power outages can corrupt hard drives and destroy files.

When you're trying to determine what kind of UPS you should get, you would need to have at least a general idea of how much power you would be using. To find out this number, I would recommend testing the wattage of the devices that would be plugged into the UPS. I use a "Kill A Watt EZ" device, which you can find online in case you don't have one. If you need to figure out how much wattage your computer may be using, there are websites out there that will allow you to plug in your computer specs and it will give you a rough idea of how much power your PC will consume. That said, I bought this UPS for my monitor (Asus VG245H) and custom built PC, which has an 850W power supply. My power has only gone out once since I purchased this UPS two months ago. It worked fine for me, and I was getting estimates of 30-40 minutes of battery life (with my monitor and PC plugged in) although I wasn't maxing out the power on my PC. Also, I didn't have anything else plugged into the UPS as I wanted to have as much battery life as possible in those situations.
