“Is it really true that using an extension cord or plug strip voids the warranty? If true, this is a show-stopper. What about all the little power supplies for modem, router, external hard drives, USB hubs, monitors, etc. physically won't reach the UPS?”

Hello Joe, You would never want to daisy chain a surge strip into any other surge strip or UPS as it would become a fire hazard. Buy the same or lower guage (thicker) formthe chord. Its not rocket science, it cant cause a fire if the gauge is thicker. Its just that manufacturers know people buy the cheapest garbage for 2.99 at dollar tree, so they say that. And yes i ran my space heater dyson with a low gauge cable from home depot for years and no problem
