• No the Manuel specifically says you should empty and defrost every 6 months.

• Hi, Thank you for your question. Our Danby 7.2 cu. ft. Chest Freezer is not auto defrost. This appliance should be defrosted approximately twice a year or when a 6 mm (1/4 inch) layer of frost has formed.
