Good afternoon and thank you for your question! This appliance can be used in both free standing and built in locations. The easiest way to tell what location our wine coolers can be used in is by looking at the front. Some wine coolers have a door that goes right down to the floor, those models should only be used in a free standing locations. This wine cooler has a grille just below the door to allow warm air generated at the back of the appliance to be blown out through the front which means that this appliance can be used in both free standing and built in locations.
