QuestionI copied a folder from my downloads to my documents on finder for Mac. The folder copied had the same folder name as another folder in documents section. This caused an overwrite. I checked trash, iCloud, Time Machine. Can BestBuy recover this please?

- Answer No you can't recover files once you've overwritten them .. that is why you do backups... another way to save PRECIOUS files us to email them back to yourself ... that way the file is ALWAYS in your Inbox.. an alternative to backups is file/folder syncibg .. where you sync folders on your system drive to an external drive . Be it a high dapacity memory stick, 2TB SSD, 2,3,4 5 TB Passport drive ... i bought a 14TB drive from BestBuy .. all the stirage i will EVER Bmnee

QuestionWhy couldn't geek squad recover my data from my laptop that had a failed hard drive, but would start. From all I read, this is NOT supposed to be difficult, yet they handed me back my disassembled laptop the next week and claimed they could not.

- Answer I'll explain what happened to me and maybe that might help. I spilled water on my laptop. My local Geek Squad sent my laptop out to their main computer repair in Kentucky for repairs. After 30 days they couldn't fix it and sent it back with the two hard drives removed. All I had to pay then was shipping. I don't know what information was on either hard drive but retrieving the data on largest of the hard drive was free because I had Total Tech Support. I had to supply an external hard drive for them to transfer the data to and when the hard drive came back the local Geek Squad transferred the data into my new laptop. I hope this sheds some light on your predictament. Jim
