QuestionDoes the DVR need a wired internet connection or can it connect wireless? Also, I live in ND where the temperatures can be -30. I know the specs say minimum of 14 but I'm curious if anyone has installed in cooler weather and if they function.

- Answer Thanks for a couple of great questions! The DVR does require a wired Ethernet connection to your modem or router for smartphone viewing. In terms of temperature, the listed values are what we've test the camera down to, they can work in cooler temperatures, but length of time exposed may be a factor.

QuestionThe cameras on this unit states "one-way audio" ability. Does the BNC connection collect audio for each camera? Does DVR automatically record audio & output to speaker output plug on DVR? How sensitive is each camera's microphone?

- Answer Great question HorizontalMike. The DVR has four RCA audio inputs to which microphones can be connected. The cameras included do not have microphones built in, you would need to purchase them from another manufacturer. Audio recording can be turned on or off as needed. Be sure to review local laws regarding audio recording.

Question1st Question = Can I get alerts on my phone when camera is on motion activated recording. 2nd Question = Can I have a single camera on motion and the others on full time recording.

QuestionDoes the system record in color or just black in white?

- Answer Great question Richg. The DVR is capable of recording in full colour. Black/White refers to the color of the camera body itself. Daytime vision is shown and recorded in colour. Nightvision is recorded in black and white infrared.

QuestionI understand that this system can do continuous recording or H.264. Is it possible for the system to record on motion or Motion JPG? I would prefer not to have to sort through hours of video to locate an event/incident.

- Answer Thanks for your question Steveo. These cameras record full colour during the day in a bright setting. Once night falls or the room is dark, black and white infrared will activate.

QuestionI have ordered the 16 camera system but am unsure If I can hook the dvr to my hdmi port on the back of my PC. Will my PC monitor serve/operate same as hooking the dvr to a HD TV? Thanks for any response.

- Answer Great question. You would need to connect the DVR directly to the monitor. If you connect it to a laptop or a computer tower, those connections are usually video outputs and do not accept video from other devices.

QuestionCan you zoom in to see some one, also I seen that records at night in Black and White only so no color at all?

- Answer Great question Albert. There is a digital zoom feature which allows you to zoom in on an area of the footage, but this doesn't work like optical zoom which can refocus for a cleaner image. Nightvision relies on infrared light which can only be recorded in black and white on these DVR systems. During the day or in a lit room, the footage will be full colour.

QuestionHow far can each camera be away from the power source? For example, could I hook two 120' extensions together so that I could place a camera 200' from my home?

- Answer Thanks for an great question Travis. Defender HD cameras can be run with a total of 300ft of cable each without experiencing loss in quality. To achieve this, you will want to use HDCBL60 or HDCBL120 extension cables.

QuestionYour ad says the cameras which are included have an angle of "Up To 75 degrees". Does that mean the cameras are varifocal lens that can be adjusted from roughly 2.8mm to 12mm, or are they just fixed at one fixed setting like 3.0mm.

- Answer Thanks for a great question Ralph. The cameras use a fixed lens and a fixed viewing angle of 75 degrees. It could be physically less if installed with something like a wall blocking part of that view.

- Answer Great question Tony. The included cables are Siamese in that they hold both video and power cables. For every 4 cameras, you will receive a 4 way power splitter with a power adapter.

- Answer Hi Randy, Excellent question and thank you for your interest in our products!! Our cameras are weather-resistant, allowing you to mount outside year-round. We do recommend that the cameras be mounted under the eaves of your house or some similar covering, just to limit direct and constant exposure to the elements. In Winter, Spring, Summer or Fall you can count on Defender for the peace of mind that you deserve!

- Answer Hi George, That's a great question. This system has an internal 2TB hard drive, which records all footage. It does offer remote viewing capabilities via the Defender HD app, so you can pull up recorded footage while away from home as well!

- Answer Hi Shelby, great question! All of our systems require that the DVR be connected to the TV using an HDMI or VGA cable. Unfortunately there is no app for Defender HD compatible with smart TVs to allow wireless viewing of the system. The Defender HD app is available only for Android and iOS smartphones Thank you for your interest in Defender, whichever model you choose, you’ll get the peace of mind you’re looking for with Defender!

QuestionI am thinking of buying your Defender 16 CH 8 Camera Wired 1080p 2TB system but wondering what is the difference between a DVR Surveillance System and a NVR Surveillance System? Also will the 2TB system support recording for 6 cameras up to 3 weeks?

- Answer Great question Cynk! There are few differences between the two. While a DVR typically uses analog cable for video transmission, an NVR will typically use CAT5e Ethernet cable for a cable cable. NVR cameras also typically have their own address on the network allowing them to be accessed individually when connected to the network. Both will record to an internal hard drive in most cases.
