These cameras need to be plugged into an outlet. They do wirelessly send picture to monitor (which also needs to be plugged in) but they are not completely wireless.

Both the camera and the monitor need to be plugged into an electric outlet. The camera has 2-section 16-foot electrical cord and the monitor has a 6 foot cord. I have mine plugged into a covered receptacle with surge protection and had no problems.
