Both cables should work just fine with the monitor, but depending on the HDMI type it may not compare to the DP. Recommended, use the DP cable for this monitor

I ordered the Dell XPS 8930 Desktop with all the bells and whistles. I have the NVIDIA GE FORCE 2080 video card. This card has room for 3 DP ports and 1 HDMI port. I plugged the displays into the card, booted up, and they worked flawlessly! No need for an HDMI cable. My daughter works from home allot and needs 2 monitors for what she does. Very easy to switch back and forth between single and dual use operations.
