Ubuntu on this computer should run very well. Windows 10 works very well on it, so Ubuntu should be even better. It won't be amazing for compiling large programs or be very snappy with certain high-intensity tasks, but for IDE work, Java/Python/Etc., it will work very well (and at a very good price with very good battery life). Dell also has a good reputation with Linux drivers, so that is another plus if future-proofing is important for you.
