• It depends. If he is going into engineering (think 3D modelling) or video editing, then - no, it's not powerful enough and it doesn't have graphics card needed. It's OK for most other uses, but you do want to bump RAM to 8 Gb.

• This laptop would be good mostly for work, light gaming, and browsing so it should probably last
