“I just purchase this laptop and it randomly does a hard shutdown for no apparent reason when not in use. Maybe it is overheating? Airflow is not obstructed. Have to hold power button 20 seconds to get any response. Power options are set not to sleep.”

I had the same problem and corrected it by going to the advanced power settings and set the disc shut down, sleep mode and hibernation to zero or never.
