• I don't believe that it is normal. I've never had that happen with mine. Sometimes interference can be caused to the audio by a nearby cell phone, though.

• That scared me too. I even went back the next day to buy a replacement to hopefully solve the issue. It's the entire line. I even called Dell. The guy dismissed it being an issue and basically said deal with it. If it causes damage, just replace it within the year.
