The previous answer is misleading. The ports on either side of the HDMI port are a USB-C and a USB 3.0. USB-C ports happen to come in several (confusing) varieties; the one here has a "DP" symbol next to it, and has DisplayPort capability, even though physically, it's not a DisplayPort- or Mini DisplayPort-shaped port. (Does that clear things up? lol) So, with the right cable or adapter, you can use this USB-C port for DisplayPort functionality. Not that you asked, but it should also be noted that this USB-C port uses the USB 3.0 standard and speed (aka SuperSpeed, aka USB 3.1 Gen 1, to add to the confusion), which is 5 Gbps, as opposed to USB-C ports with the faster USB 3.1 Gen 2 standard (aka SuperSpeed Plus), which can transfer data at 10 Gbps. The most advanced USB-C ports, in addition to having USB 3.1 Gen 2, also have Thunderbolt 3 capability, which allows for 40 Gbps data transfer speeds. Given all these confusing variations, it would be great if you could easily look up the specific capabilities of a certain model's USB-C port. But you can't. The closest thing to documentation for this particular model is here: http://www.dell.com/support/manuals/us/en/19/inspiron-15-7579-2-in-1-laptop/inspiron-15-7579-Setup-Specifications/Left?guid=GUID-BE17E2B5-6071-41F6-854D-E5F526405FA1&lang=en-us (See screenshot if web address gets blocked.)
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. To help clarify Helpful's answer (thanks for your research, reliable full specification info often difficult to find, these days). Based on the Dell specs listed (assuming match this exact device model & build). The included USB Type-C port includes support for (provides) USB 3.0 SS (SuperSpeed) & Displayport (controllers or standards). It includes the Displayport symbol/logo. Displayport also has their own defined physical connector/port standard. Not used here, instead provided via the USB Type-C connector instead (likely for economy, minimize connectors by sharing). So make sure if you get a cable or adapter, it matches this setup. For Displayport, a USB Type-C to (other device connector) Displayport cable/adapter (& not a Displayport standard cable/connector). I suggest even search online for specific help info on how to connect specifically what you are connecting; often you can find specific articles or posts (including in forums). (The "...opposed to..." part, was to identify newer standards (newer USB & other controller standards/versions), that this computer does NOT include. So be aware newer faster standards are available, but not with this device. For shopping comparisons & decisions.) Distinction between physical connectors & controller/interface/communication standards. The external physical connectors or types (like USB types) can sometimes support or provide multiple standards or controllers via/thru the same physical connector (USB & others). In this case, Displayport support is provided via/thru the USB Type-C port/connector. (Likely for economy, minimize physical connectors by sharing.) That is where the combinations of physical ports/connectors & the supported/provided standards via/thru them matter (& can be confusing). -- I guess the other community... answer was based on which apparent display/video interfaces provided, when they answered only HDMI. I wish the HDMI version/standard was listed also. It was not obvious Displayport is provided, until I greatly zoomed in the images & recognized the logo, & also saw Helpful's answer. -- Best Buy specifications/specs are mostly correct, but incorrect a surprising amount. I do not trust them, & have discovered errors or missing info for most of the products I checked/shopped/researched more thoroughly. I recommend always do further research & search. Online, by the full model, or by (unique) identity codes like UPC, EAN, GTIN, etc. Lookup on original manufacturer's site, & test & review sites. (Learning which are more reliable, accurate, & trustworthy for the product type.)
