You can pay the subscription if you like but you may wish to look into some free options. While they can have their own annoying pop-ups at times, many users use BitDefender, AVG, Avast, etc. The good ones will do the same job as McAfee et al. And you may even find that your Internet provider will have a free download for you. For example, Spectrum (formerly Time Warner Cable) has McAfee software available for free. You just have to find it within your account login etc -- might be worth a phone call to your provider as applicable.
