I used an optical connection from my TV to the Denon receiver, and then selected that connection with the Denon remote, and that feeds the sound thru the speakers that I have connected to the receiver.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There is an option in the MENU to pass audio through to TV.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Thanks for the replys, him and his wife where able to get it to play sound through the HDMI cable going to the TV without external speakers. They said it was a setting or feature that had to be switched or enabled on the TV itself.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes, you need speakers. The denon receiver is the brain for syncing the surround sound system, the tv, the cable, and any players/consoles
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If you're using the receiver for sound, I don't think the sound would come through the HDMI out, it would come through the speakers attached to the receiver. So the only thing I can think of is that the wrong input is selected. Try both the "DVD/Blu-ray" and "Blu-ray" inputs.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Sounds to me like he needs to buy speakers!
