QuestionWill the receiver play through Dolby Surround and other surround modes when you connect a CD player or record player with RCA cables? I have an older Denon that won't let you use the surround sound modes unless you have a 'digital connector'.

- Answer No, since the connection is by definition stereo it will not allow you to process it as surround sound (Dolby or DTS). However there is a multichannel stereo option which will produce sound from all speakers attached.

- Answer There are two output RCA-type connections from the receiver that can be connect to 1 or 2 sub-woofers that are amplified. I have it connected two two powered sub woofers and it sounds great.

- Answer Yes, you even can do the set up process WITHOUT the TV... just look at the AMP itself.

- Answer According to the AVR-S540BT manual there is no mention of an equalizer. I inadvertently labeled previous answers to equalizer question as being unhelpful which was a mistake. Those answers were accurate and helpful.

- Answer The Denon s301 is a Home theater system using proprietary speaker wire connections. I would recommend purchasing new speakers to go with the receiver.

- Answer We're very sorry you received wrong info. The S540BT's USB port is designed to playback with compatible USB drives only. The S540BT's owners manual states all functionality pertaining to the unit's USB port.

  Our units use the RCA pre-outs for subwoofer connections. If you check the back of the unit it will say subwoofer.
