Can you connect a non powered sub to this tuner? null

Depends on your subwoofer, my Sony sub has an optional feed thru to connect the surround speakers to feed the sub, not the preferred method, but works. The amp is not designed for it, the two sub outs are for powered subwoofers.

Not directly. You can use a sub amp in between the AVR and passive sub. The AVR's Subwoofer pre-out would connect to the sub amp via an RCA connection. The sub amp would then connect to your passive sub.
