“i would like to use 2.1 for music playback via radio, phono, and or bluetooth/phone, then switch to 5.1 for tv and or blueray/4k. is this possible and easy to do?”

Sound playback has those modes and much more. They can be dialed in manually on the left knob of the unit once you have chosen playback device, or can be changed on the remote.
