Hello. The AVR-X1800H has the following features not found on the AVR-S970H: Front left and right pre-out, Bi-amping for the front left and right speakers, DSD via HDMI, Dialog enhancement, more advanced room correction (Audyssey MultEQ XT), Speaker A/B assignable, detachable power cord. The AVR-X1800H also has more advanced power supplies in the power amplifier stage - this allows for support of a wider range of loudspeaker, handling more demanding loads than the AVR-S970H.
