Thought I was ready to finally upgrade (after years of waiting), but now I hear these new AVRs aren't fully HDMI 2.1 (readiness for next-gen gaming in doubt and 4k/120hz passthrough is unreliable). Can someone with knowledge on the matter please advise? null

This is accurate - the current HDMI 2.1 chipset in this receiver is unable to pass through 4K/120hz from a console like the Xbox Series X. It's possible to connect the console directly to your TV and have it pass audio to the AVR with eARC, but it's not ideal. This only affects 4K/120 output, so you could also drop the console settings down to 4K/60 ... but that's not why you got it, right? Denon claims to be working on a solution, but there's no word on what that means yet.

As of May 2021 items manufactured have had this issue resolved. The serial numbers of the updated units end with 70001 and higher. As long as your serial # is above that you have the newer working HDMI2.1 device.

According to Forbes as of Dec 9, 2020, Sound United, the owner of Denon, "successfully got a Denon AVR-X2700H receiver to pass 4K/120Hz through from a PS5 and Nvidia RTX 3090 graphics card in all the formats you would expect."

The Panasonic Solutions chip has to be the same at the source and at the receiver. Therefore, this model should work for a PS5 because it has this chip. The Xbox Series X does not.

Receivers manufactured after May 2021 have the bug fixed, and support 4K@120hz. Any older receivers will require the adapter (another big box) to be ordered from the manufacturer (free).
