“The volume is very low until 35-40, then gets exponentially louder, is there a way to adjust it to have more volume with lesser power? it seems t be adjusted to the 50-80 volume range, my old HK Avr 800 barely got into + decibels before being too loud ?”

The Absolute volume scale ranges from 0-98. On this scale, 40 is where you would start outputting any audible signal. You were most likely using a Relative volume scale on the previous HK unit. You can change the DRA to use a Relative Scale (-80 dB to +18 dB) by accessing the menu and selecting Audio - Volume - Scale.
