5 Stars!
||Posted .Owned for 1 month when reviewed.Absolutely amazing! I had an older 100x/channel Onlyo 2 channel receiver that this has taken the place of, and I couldn’t be more happy. My speakers sound warmer, livelier, and more dynamic than ever. I just wish I would have upgraded sooner. Great work Denon! If you’re looking for a 2 channel receiver that makes your music sound sing, and your movies rip, look no further.

Not for 4 ohm loads. Good, not great receiver.
||Posted .Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This is one of only a few 2 channel amps with HDMI inputs and ARC support for those of us who don't want a soundbar or have the space to setup a surround system. I got one of these for Christmas to replace a setup I had cobbled together with a 2 channel integrated amp and an HDMI ARC audio extractor powering a pair of Elac UniFi UB5's. The Elacs are rated at 4 ohms and I was worried that this amp wouldn't have the power to push them, but all the reviews say it will. This amp can power them but only just and there's a significant degradation to the sound quality. All the bottom end just disappeared. You could still get decent volume but the bass was just gone. This receiver just clearly doesn't have enough power to push a 4 ohm load very well. Build quality is decent. Although I was a little surprised to find only a 2 prong power plug instead of the usual 3 prong grounded IEC. On screen display is terrible. It's like they pulled the UI straight out of a 1987 VCR. It works though, and once you have it set up you can forget about it. AVR remote app: has all the function of the on screen set up menu. It found my receiver, paired up instantly and started working without issue. That's all you can ask. HEOS app is functional and gets the job done. ARC and HDMI CEC: I connected to my LG UHDTV via the HDMI ARC input on the TV and the Monitor ARC out on the receiver. It worked initially but then suddenly stopped. After going through all of the setup menus and ensuring that ARC was selected and HDMI CEC was turned on on both devices I could not get the audio return channel to work. Ultimately, I powered down both completely and unplugged them, plugged them back in and turned them on and it's been working fine ever since. That initial handshake between devices seems to make a huge difference. I don't fault LG or Denon for this but include this in my review in case anyone has similar problems setting up HDMI CEC and ARC functionality. I connected a pair of Sony SS-CS5's down that I had in another room just to verify my suspicions about the 4ohm load from the Elacs being too much for the power section of this receiver. The Sony's sounded much better than the Elacs. Not because they're a better sounding speaker in general but because the 6 ohm nominal impedance of the Sony's worked better with this amp. The Sony's sounded like they've sounded in a number of setups I have used them for. Sound quality with impedance loads the amp is comfortable with is competent. Certainly good enough as a soundbar replacement. Soundstage and imaging were very good. Detail is okay. Volume is only okay. The Sony's are rated at 87dB but you still have to turn this amp up pretty high to get a good amount of volume. As other reviewers have said, I think the 100W rating at 8ohms is a little optimistic. The good outweighs the bad with this receiver. There's a lot to like. To get the most out of this setup though you'll want 6 ohm or higher speakers with higher sensitivity. I'll definitely be keeping it if only because of the HEOS functionality and HDMI CEC allowing me to control everything I need to with just my TV remote. All that said, I'd pay the extra money for this same receiver with a 2 channel power section as powerful as my old Denon 3805 Receiver. That has 150 honest watts and can push 4 ohms easily, but it pre-dates HDMI.

||Posted .Owned for 7 months when reviewed.Did not fit properly into our scheme. BB did everything right, but we gave it back. On the wall installation turned out unworkable. Sounded great, and they installed it well into existing ceiling speakers for whole house.

Q: QuestionDescribe CD PLAYER connection....it seems to be lacking play out/rec in?
Asked by Soupman4u.
- A:Answer Unfortunately, today's receivers don't include a Record Out function as the use of that technology has diminished greatly. The workaround here with the DRA-800H is to use the analog Zone 2 pre-out to your Teak's input. To do this properly, you would have to set the DRA's Zone 2 pre-out to a fixed level (i.e. 80) in the menu. (General - Zone 2 Setup - Volume Level)

Q: QuestionWhere do you plug in a sub woofer
Asked by Jd.
- A:Answer The 800H has 2 Subwoofer pre-outs (RCA) on the rear panel. A powered sub or sub amp can be connected there.

Q: QuestionWill this DRA-800H unit power JBL 4 ohm loud speakers ?
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer Hello and thank you for the question. The Denon DRA-800H should have no trouble at all driving a pair of JBL speakers as the DRA-800H is 4ohm stable. Most JBL speakers tend to be highly efficient speakers making them easier to drive.

Q: QuestionMy speakers use wires, not RCA jacks. Is there a way to make these work?
Asked by BLK.
- A:Answer Yes. You can unscrew/release the speaker connection, slide the wire in and tighten to secure. I have banana plugs for the speaker and bare wire for the receiver.

Q: QuestionFor a turntable connection, is a separate pre-amp required or is there one built into this unit?
Asked by JL.
- A:Answer Phono stage is MM, no preamp required.

Q: QuestionWhat’s the difference between “loudness control “ and volume control. Previous question has me confused.
Asked by Anonymous.
- A:Answer A "Loudness" feature will alter frequencies to make the audio appear louder. The Volume knob will control the amount of wattage that's output from the unit's amp section.

Q: QuestionDoes this reciver have a center speaker hook up??
Asked by Jon88j.
- A:Answer Hello, our Denon DRA-800H model is a 2 channel receiver designed for LT and RT stereo playback. For center channel connection and or surround sound, consider our similar priced AVR-X1700H surround sound receiver.
