“Is it possible to turn off the brushes on the vac ? I have some antique carpets that should never be brushed.”

The brush roll cannot turn off, however, you can easily remove it by pulling a labeled brush roll release latch on the side of the brush cover. Just be sure to disconnect the hand held vacuum from the wand before removing the brush roll to ensure there is no unintentional starting or power going to the nozzle.
