400’ AGL and service ceiling are not the same thing. The service ceiling is what the drone’s lift capabilities are at (technically) density altitude. For most people this will be close enough to altitude above sea level to be a moot point. AGL is exactly what it states: above ground level. So the F.A.A. doesn’t want you to fly more than 400’ above the ground your drone is flying over. It’s that simple. You can still fly at 15000’ above sea level, but you would need to be on a piece of land that is at 14600’ to legally do so. Make sense?
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. You need to read the FAA regulations. It's no one else's responsibility but yours to be familiar with them. Your answers are there. In short this drone can be registered by a hobbyist without a part 107 cert as long as it isn't used for things covered under 107
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Most places I fly are anything but flat and the controls can only tell you the height difference from the point of takeoff. Say you’re at the bottom of a 100 foot hill and fly up above the hill but always maintain 100 feet off the ground; by the time you reach the top the altitude will be reading 500 feet but the drone will still only be 400 feet off the ground If that’s too complicated there is a way to set the max altitude for the drone so it will not physically allow you to fly above your set altitude from the point of takeoff.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I just went ahead and got my license just to be sure.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. There are instances that you will need to fly above 400 feet A jail. CFR 14 – part one07 allows you to fly 400 feet above the highest object within 300 feet horizontally. Also to avoid collision with incoming aircraft you may need to gain altitude rather than lose it. Also public safety entities such as fire departments and law-enforcement are allowed to fly outside of LOS. This makes the service ceiling and working distance viable.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Why do they make cars that run over the speed limit ?? Life’s mysteries.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Just like driving a vehicle on the road genius. You gotta obey the laws in the books.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes I believe it’s up to 1,500 feet
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. All of these drones can exceed 400 feet. That is a soft cap for the drone as the real spec is 500 feet, but 400 is specified to allow for errors. As for the line of site, that is something that is a bit of an issue, and honestly none of the systems work that well when used in densely populated areas, with plenty of signal interference. The furthest I've gotten mine away was maybe 3/4ths of a mile and then it loses the signal and returns to home.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Just because it is capable of exceeding lawful limits does not mean it should be done. It is a major selling point for people who have their license and use this drone for search and rescue and other emergency situations.
