Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hi Dave, I looked online and probably found the same info you did so here goes my best answer. No matter what you will need to download and update the drone software before you go out. I took this drone to Costa Rica and we went out fishing an hour away from the resort. Not only that but we were at a large 100’ cliff on the water. The drone worked fine. I don’t recall checking if I had cell service or not but it worked just fine and we really were in the middle of nowhere. Is it possible there was a cell tower around? Sure, but I really doubt it. Either way, that is what I am going to pass on to you. Sometimes if the shots are worth it you should give it a try. Enjoy the drone. I sure have. ;-). These really are better that anything else out there. Keep in mind when you pick your drone you will never burn the whole flight time. Have to land that thing or it WILL land itself.

As long as you activated the drone and downloaded the latest firmware updates while connected to the internet, you need not be connected when flying. The aircraft broadcasts its own signal that connects directly to the remote.
