“With earlier models, I read that there was a lot of dowloading or upgrading of software prior to flying. Is that the same case with the Pro 4+? Is there any additional downloading, etc. before flying. Thanks.”

While there are occasionally released firmware updates that may take a few minutes to install, this does not happen often enough to limit your flight. The Phantom 4 Pro will be able to get airborne within 30 minutes of purchase.
