It sounds like there is some paper stuck in the sensing switch (inside the machine just below the opening in the center). It could be some paper that had glue on the back (like a self sealing envelope). I wouldn't suggest going in there to fix it with a tweezers unless you know what you are doing. Maybe if you put something heavy through there (like a piece of card stock--business card thickness) it would clear it through. The other possibility is that the switch is broken. Repair would be more expensive than buying a new one.
