To get around this problem, add to wall a 1"x4" board and screw it into your available studs. Make the length of the board the length needed to get the TV where you want it on the wall. You might have, say, a short section of the board extending beyond the left stud and a much longer section extending beyond the rightmost stud. If the wood and the screws are sturdy, no problem. I bought a 36" long piece of red oak and 3 inch lag screws from either Home Depot or Lowes and the TV now feels very secure. This will add to the distance of the TV from the wall, but will increase maximum tilt.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.It should. The openings aren’t circles, they are long ovals so you can slide it where you need it. I believe the directions say you can mount anywhere from 12” to 24” studs.
