Hi Jeb, this is Krystal with Dyson.The filter in the Dyson Pure Cool air purifier cannot be re-used. How often you change it, does depend on how often it is used. If used for 24 hours a day, it will need to be changed about once every 6 months. If used for 12 hours or less per day, it will need to be changed about once every year.
