Hello there, this is Kelly with Dyson. The Dyson V11 models, that feature the torque-drive cleaner head work very well on thicker, or shag-type pile rugs. The torque-drive cleaner head features a suction control slider right at the front of the head, along with 3 suction modes on the machine. Best wishes, Kelly Dyson Customer Support
