No, the robot will keep its mop pads with it at all times. You can set it up to vac and mop at the same time, or vac first then mop. If you have high pile carpet, that is the better choice. Depending on your settings, the robot will go back to clean and re-soak the pads often as it does not have an onboard water tank. I have a small apartment so it only uses 15% of the battery to do the whole place mopping and vac. It remembers where it left off and will go recharge and maintenance until it can complete the cleaning. I strongly suggest you keep an eye on it the first few times it runs, as mine has got stuck a few times while away from home and the battery will totally die while it try’s to free itself. For the discounted value of under $700 it’s worth it, and anything more there are better choices. My next vac will be one by Dream.

It has settings to lift the mop pads for carpet or avoid high carpet altogether. Our home is all hard floor and tile. But it does a decent job at the rugs as far as avoiding them or lifting the pads. Ive tried both methods. You can also set up virtual boundaries around things you want it to avoid. I set them up for our floor registers. As i didnt want water getting in them. Although i doubt it would. It will clean its pads at 3 different settings as per your choice as well as empty the dust bin when it does this. Or just when it needs it emptied. I prefer to empty it on every mop pad cleaning during its cycle because we have cats. So nothing gets stuck.

You can choose vacuum only, mop only, vacuum and then mop, or vacuum and mop simultaneously. You need to change the water that washes the mop pads between use, it’s easy and simple. This ecovac is pretty amazing. The housing is quite large but that’s because of the water bins.
