The appliance is designed for 110V. If you plug it to 230-240V, you will either overheat the cord and cause a fire, or burn the thermostat, and/or element and potentially burning down your house. If you had a 230V device and wanted to use it over here in the US (110V) the only problem I see is that it would take a little longer to reach the same temp that it would reach in (for example) if you used it in the UK, since the device would be drawing half the power it is designed for. But generally speaking something that is "less", you should not plug it to "more". Imagine it as trying to fill-up a perfume bottle with water, using a drinking glass: you will make a mess. BUT you could fill up the drinking glass with several perfume bottles full of water. It would just take you longer.
