“When I install the switch it does not work. Wiring a standard switch the same way works fine. I have a ground and a hub. Is there anything that must be done before the switches work in manual mode?”

Maybe the airgap tab got pulled out. The airgap tab is a built in safety feature so you could disable anything connected to the switch (a light) instead of having to turn off the whole circuit (all of a bedroom). The tab is on the front bottom, to the left of the led.
